Over £1.6 million across 27 London boroughs, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle. We’re helping 70,000 children get access to music education.
85% of children have given up on music education by GCSE – with less than 10% taking it as a subject.
Austerity and funding cuts have hit music hardest – but we’re here to do something about it.
Music is a way out of the cycle of gangs, violence, poverty and crime. It’s a way into a £5bn UK music industry.
Music is a trojan horse of skills. It’s fun, but kids are secretly learning how to read music, improve comprehension and boost focus. There’s hand-eye coordination and social skills thrown in too. It nurtures self-confidence and expression.
What we love to see most is when a child gets into music who was struggling with behaviour. That passion and concentration then seeps into everything else they do. It’s like magic.
We work closely with schools to understand exactly what will help them, led by the music teachers. All of our funding is tailored to what they need, to have maximum benefit for the kids.
Head to our funding page if you’re a school or student who wants to find out more about how your school can get one of our grants.
Our job doesn’t end when we deliver instruments.
We run events that give kids a chance to perform, and to be inspired by incredible artists and music brands.
We also hold an annual Gala Fundraiser to raise crucial funding for our grant programme.
If you’re a teacher or student at an independent school, use our LIPS scheme to get discounted musical instruments with UCanPlay.
