ABOUT US

We’re a lean and dedicated team passionate about the power of music, and the importance and value of music in schools, and music teachers.

We’re also … a family of schools, donors, funders and ambassadors who give their time, money and energy to make sure all young people can unlock their potential through music.

  • Gordon Singer, Restore The Music Founder & Chair

  • Lady Ella Windsor, Restore The Music Patron

Ella is passionate about music and how it can help young people find their voice. She is also a singer-songwriter.

“Music can do so much to help build confidence, imagination and social skills - all of which are, I believe, essential to learning. On a recent visit to a school served by Restore the Music I was dazzled by the student performances, Rachmaninoff on piano, jazz saxophone, drums and Spanish guitar. They transported us to another place - far from a school classroom. What a stunning snapshot of talent, teaching and world class instruments, funded by Restore the Music. It is such an honour to serve as Patron to this exceptional charity which creates opportunities for children to thrive through the power of music.”

  • Polly Stepan, CEO

Co-Founded Restore the Music in 2013 by building unique and innovative relationships across all sectors, identifying like-minded individuals who placed the same importance on delivering music provision to all young people. Quick to see the size of the gap in funding for music in schools, as well as to understand the impact of music particularly in areas of high deprivation, in 2017 the programme formally became a charity .

  • HANNAH MAYBLIN, OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE

Joined the team in 2022 with a background in Arts Education and a shared passion for empowering young people through the provision of high quality cultural and creative experiences. With the growth of Restore the Music, Hannah plays a key role in ensuring the efficient management of the RTM network, events and comms along with the funding round data capture and website updates.

  • JONATHAN SAVAGE, REGIONAL PROGRAMME DIRECTOR

In charge of day to day management of the grantee network outside of London as well as identifying new opportunities for partnerships and fundraising opportunities.

JUNIOR AMBASSADORS

  • Jamal

I’ve been playing piano for five years. From the first time I sat at the instrument, music became a way for me to express myself and connect with others. I’ve grown up exploring both classical and jazz traditions, inspired by composers like Chopin and Debussy as well as jazz pianists such as Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau.

For me, the piano is where discipline meets creativity. Whether I’m working on a classical piece or improvising through jazz, I see music as a language that brings people together and tells stories beyond words. My goal is to keep developing my own voice as a pianist while sharing the joy and connection that music has given me.

  • AJ

I’ve been playing the drums for about 7 years. Growing up in a church surrounded by musicians shaped my love for rhythm and improvisation, and today I draw inspiration from gospel, jazz, and fusion. Influences like Snarky Puppy and drummer Larnell Lewis inspire the way I blend technical precision with groove and storytelling in my playing. I now perform with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and have played everywhere from Ronnie Scott’s to UK festivals such as Cross the Tracks. For me, music is about connection — bringing people together, inspiring others, and creating moments that last beyond the stage.

Looking ahead, I'm excited to announce that I'll be furthering my education by studying audio engineering at university. I'm eager to dive into the technical side of music, learning about recording, mixing, and mastering. I plan to use this knowledge to enhance my own performances and contribute to the broader music community. I want to help other musicians achieve their creative visions in the studio.

  • Spencer

I have been playing Guitar and Bass for over 12 years. My biggest influences are Kamasi Washington and Tyler, the Creator. The way they have shaped music by creating stories and sending messages through their immense discography continues to inspire me to become the instrumentalist that I am today. I believe music is a language, the only language that can be understood by all. With that, comes a power which I believe has the ability to move people in different ways. That’s why I strive to create music that inspires listeners to bring purpose to this world. I am due to start my University course in Audio Engineering and Music Production at the University of Hertfordshire in September 2025. I believe this will be a great experience for me as I am able to delve into the realms of the music industry.

  • Miguel

I'm a guitarist and bassist. My life revolves around music. From an early age, I was nurtured in a musical household, which I consider a privilege everyone should have the chance to enjoy.

My main influences at the moment are Alfa Mist, Yussef Dayes, and Robert Glasper. The way they are shaping modern jazz and blending it with other styles to create their unique sound is utterly inspirational. That uniqueness is something I strive to create for myself.

Music has always been more than just something to listen to, it has been a form of true expression, a way to feel emotions, and a bridge across language barriers. I even learned to play the guitar before I could speak English. And that is my purpose: to bring people together, no matter where they are from, to transcend barriers and differences, and to unite people through music. I will be studying Music Bmus at the University of Surrey from September 2025.

  • Jonathan

I’ve been a drummer since the age of 12. After picking up a pair of sticks for the first time, music has been pivotal in shaping countless elements of my life and development. Over the years, my playing has been influenced by the styles of brilliant drummers such as Nate Smith, Eric Moore and Larnell Lewis, allowing me to become a drummer for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). I’ve not only had this pleasure, but also the privilege of being able to put on shows for Restore the Music UK. It’s an honour to be chosen to represent the future of RTM as a Junior Ambassador, and hopefully I can help share the gift of music with young people from all backgrounds.
